Embark on an unforgettable 10-Day Rwenzori Mountains Climbing Expedition to the summit of Margherita Peak (5,109m), the highest point in Uganda and the third-highest in Africa. The Rwenzori Mountains, often referred to as the “Mountains of the Moon,” stretch across 120km in length and 65km in width, offering breathtaking landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and a true mountaineering challenge.
Located within Rwenzori Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in western Uganda, this climb is a dream for adventure seekers. The park is home to over 70 mammal species and 217 bird species, including 19 endemic to the Albertine Rift. Beyond trekking, you can immerse yourself in cultural experiences with the Bakonzo people, enjoy birdwatching, and explore scenic nature trails.
10-Day Rwenzori Climbing Itinerary
Day 1: Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)
Your journey begins with a briefing at Trekkers Hostel in Kilembe (1,450m). You’ll then start your trek, gaining 1,146m in elevation as you ascend through lush forests to Sine Camp. (Approx. 9.3km)
Day 2: Hike to Mutinda Camp (3,688m)
Continue your ascent to Mutinda Camp, a 1,092m elevation gain. For acclimatization, you can climb to Mutinda Lookout (3,975m), which offers panoramic views.
Day 3: Hike to Bugata Camp (4,100m)
Trek through a valley filled with unique plant species, streams, and waterfalls. The hike becomes steeper and more challenging, but the stunning scenery makes it worthwhile.
Day 4: Hike to Hunwick’s Camp (3,974m)
Cross the Bamwanjara Pass (4,450m), which provides spectacular views of the Rwenzori peaks before descending to Hunwick’s Camp.
Day 5: Summit Mt. Baker (4,842m)
Summit Mt. Baker and return to Hunwick’s Camp for the night. (Approx. 8.4km round trip)
Day 6: Hike to Margherita Camp (4,485m)
Descend into the valley towards Lake Kitandara, then climb through Scott Elliot Pass to reach Margherita Camp.
Day 7: Summit Margherita Peak (5,109m) & Descend to Bujuku Caves
The most challenging and rewarding day as you summit Uganda’s highest peak. After taking in the views, descend to Bujuku Caves for the night.
Day 8: Summit Mt. Speke (4,890m) & Return to Hunwick’s Camp
Climb to the summit of Mt. Speke before making your way back to Hunwick’s Camp.
Day 9: Hike to Kiharo Camp (3,430m)
Ascend Weismann’s Peak (4,620m), then descend through Oliver’s Pass to Kiharo Camp, set in a lush valley.
Day 10: Descend to Basecamp in Kilembe
Trek through moss-covered landscapes and forests, making your way back to Kilembe basecamp.
Pricing for the 10-Day Rwenzori Trek
- 1 to 2 people: $2,060 per person (hiking fees) + $35 per night park entrance fee (paid separately at the gate).
- Groups of 3 or more: $1,980 per person (hiking fees) + $35 per night park entrance fee.

Meals are carefully prepared to keep you energized, and we cater to dietary restrictions upon request.

Mandatory Insurance
All trekkers must have insurance covering medical evacuation above 4,000m. No trek will commence without proof of insurance.
