What’s the Minimum and Maximum Age for Chimp Trekking?
According to Uganda Wildlife Authority’s guidelines, the minimum age for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park is 12 years. Children under 12 are not permitted to participate for safety and conservation reasons. Passports will be verified at the park headquarters to ensure all participants meet the age requirements.
There is no maximum age for chimp trekking, as long as participants are physically able to navigate the forest trails. The Chimp Trekking Experience
Chimpanzee trekking and habituation start early with a briefing at the park headquarters, where you’ll learn the guidelines for the trek. You’ll be grouped with other trekkers and guided by park rangers into the forest. The trek can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the chimps’ location. Once you locate them, you’ll have one hour (or four hours with a habituation permit) to observe and enjoy watching them feed, play, and interact. This trek also offers chances to spot other forest residents, such as monkeys, birds, and even forest elephants.
