Currently, the family consists of 14 members, including 4 silverbacks, 4 adult females, 3 juveniles, and 1 infant. The group is led by Ndahura, a calm and peaceful silverback.
2. Oruzogo Gorilla Family
   The Oruzogo family was opened for trekking in 2011. Known for its playful behavior, this family is the largest in Ruhija with 17 members, including 1 dominant silverback, Tibirikwata. The group also includes 2 blackbacks, 7 females, 2 young adults, and 5 infants. Oruzogo is famous for a memorable event in 2013 when one of its females gave birth to a set of twins, a girl named Kankonda. The playful nature of this family makes it a joy for trekkers to watch.
3. Kyaguriro Gorilla Family
   The Kyaguriro group was originally habituated in 1999 for research purposes. This group underwent some changes after the death of its former leader, Rukina, who was struck by lightning. Afterward, leadership disputes led to the split of the group into two, Kyaguriro A and Kyaguriro B (also known as the Mukiza family). While primarily for research, this family provides valuable insight into the habits of mountain gorillas.

1. By Air: Flying is the quickest way to reach Ruhija. Domestic airline AeroLink offers scheduled and charter flights to Kihihi Airstrip, from which you’ll be driven to your lodge in about an hour. Remember to check in 90 minutes before your flight, and note that luggage is limited to 15kg per person, with excess baggage charged at $3 per kg.
2. By Road: If you prefer to travel by road, Ruhija is about 8-9 hours from Entebbe or Kampala by car. The journey will take you through Kabale and Buhoma, and you’ll enjoy some spectacular views along the way. Alternatively, you can travel from Kigali, Rwanda, which takes around 4-5 hours.
