At Trek Africa Expeditions, we pride ourselves in organizing unforgettable gorilla trekking adventures across Africa, including Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park, Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, and Congo’s Virunga National Park. If you’re planning to trek gorillas in July, we’re here to help you select the best destination and take care of all your booking needs.
July marks the peak of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and it’s a perfect time for a family holiday. While many opt for beach vacations, why not make your summer truly special by embarking on an extraordinary gorilla trekking experience in Africa? With extended daylight hours and warm weather, July is ideal for exploring the lush rainforests and encountering the rare mountain gorillas. Whether you’re traveling from the UK, USA, Europe, or Asia, Trek Africa Expeditions offers affordable and high-quality trekking packages to make your African adventure unforgettable.
July is a high season for gorilla trekking, so it’s important to book your trip well in advance. To make your trip more affordable, we offer discounted gorilla trekking tours that you can easily explore on our website. We provide both short and long safaris, and you can choose from a range of destinations, including Uganda, Rwanda, or Congo. For those with extra time, we even offer multi-country trekking tours, allowing you to experience gorilla trekking in all three countries!
For safaris starting and ending in Entebbe, Uganda, or Kigali, Rwanda, Trek Africa Expeditions offers flexible itineraries that cater to your interests, budget, and schedule.
Gorilla trekking takes place in four national parks across Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. These parks are home to the last remaining mountain gorillas. The national parks include:
Each of these locations offers a unique gorilla trekking experience. For example, you can trek in Uganda’s lush Bwindi Forest or Rwanda’s Volcanoes Park, home to several gorilla families. In Congo, you can also opt to see the rare Lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Beiga National Park.
To trek gorillas in any of these parks, a gorilla permit is required. Gorilla permits for July tend to sell out quickly, especially in the peak season (June to September), so we recommend booking your permit at least 5 months in advance. This will ensure you don’t miss out on the adventure of a lifetime.
Here’s a breakdown of gorilla permit costs across the different countries:
A gorilla permit gives you access to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Uganda has 17 habituated gorilla families, with 136 permits available per day.
If you’re interested in a more extended experience, consider the Gorilla Habituation Experience, available only in Bwindi. For $1,500 per person, you can spend 4 hours with semi-habituated gorillas under the guidance of researchers and trackers.
Rwanda has 12 habituated gorilla families, with 96 permits available each day. Trekking in Volcanoes National Park is an unforgettable experience where you can spend one hour with these magnificent creatures.
Please note that the cost of a gorilla permit does not cover accommodation, transportation, meals, or other expenses. When booking your gorilla trekking trip with Trek Africa Expeditions, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive package that includes everything you need, from airport transfers to accommodation and more. We offer various packages to cater to different budgets, from budget-friendly options to luxury experiences.
Trek Africa Expeditions works closely with reputable lodges and transportation providers in Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. Our expert team will ensure your travel is smooth, and your stay is comfortable.
Planning a gorilla trekking adventure in July? The best time to book your trek is at least three months before your planned trip, though we recommend securing your permits well in advance—ideally a year before. Early booking ensures you don’t miss out on crucial elements like gorilla permits.
If you’re reading this and already thinking about your July trip, contact us with your preferred dates, and we’ll check the availability of all services, including permits.
Once we confirm the availability of permits for your chosen dates in July, we’ll promptly inform you via email. If the permits are available, we’ll guide you through the payment process, which can be made via bank transfer or credit card (note that card payments attract a small surcharge). Payment for gorilla permits must be made in full to secure your spot.
To make sure everything goes smoothly, the balance for your trip should be paid three weeks before departure. This way, you’ll know your gorilla permit is secured, giving you peace of mind for the rest of your arrangements.
Trek Africa Expeditions is one of the few licensed tour operators in Uganda with direct access to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) gorilla permit database. We can instantly check permit availability and even hold them for you—something very few tour operators can do. This gives you a reliable advantage when securing permits for the busy peak months of July, August, and September.
Once your payment is processed, we’ll send someone to UWA’s office in Kampala to finalize your booking, obtain a receipt, and provide you with all necessary documentation. We’ll safely store your permit until you start your adventure, ensuring everything is ready for your gorilla trekking experience.
